Songs from a collection of papers belonging to Averill Campbell of Montebello, Nelson County, Virginia. Averill Campbell was born in 1864 on Shoe Creek, a tributary of the Piney River. He married Ella Dimple Hite, whose name appears on one song in the collection, in 1892. Averill Campbell's grandson, Lyle D. Campbell, donated the collection in 1989. Eleven song transcriptions (22 photocopied manuscript pages of lyrics) from Campbell family papers documenting songfests in Nelson County, Virginia. A few songs are dated 1890 and 1891, others are undated. Includes texts of ballads, immigrant songs, a cowboy song, love songs, and popular songs. Library of Congress record.
